Plans for 2008 Filing of Required CLE Credits

NEXT FILING DEADLINE: Friday January 2, 2009 -- Late Filing Fee $150

Lawyers who received pink Certificates of Compliance have until the above date to postmark their filing to show they have made up their credit shortage and to pay their late filing fee. They should follow the instructions on the back of their Certificates, #5, to be sure they provide all the required information. Checks should be made payable to NHMCLE and sent with their Certificates and other documents. On January 3, 2009, the late fee increases to $250. Lawyers who have NOT completed their CLE credits should NOT FILE until their credits are complete. They will pay the appropriate late fee at that time.

WHITE CERTIFICATES Lawyers who have completed their required credits by June 30, 2008 so that the courses appear on their Certificates will only have to review them for accuracy and completeness. No response is required unless corrections are necessary. Lawyers need to maintain their course file of attendance records for 2 years. All entries are subject to audit.

PINK CERTIFICATES will be sent to the lawyers whose Certificates indicate they have not met the requirement by June 30, 2008. These lawyers will have until October 1, 2008 to complete their credits AND RETURN their Certificates with their signature and copies of the course attendance records from their new, additional courses needed to reach compliance. Lawyers have to request that their attendance be reported to NHMCLE if they take courses from an Annual Sponsor (see the list), and check their online record to be sure the report has been made correctly. Sponsors have 30 days to report attendance. Lawyers who have not responded showing their compliance by October 1, 2008 will be assessed a $50 late filing fee.

BLUE CERTIFICATES will be sent to lawyers who are NOT subject to the CLE requirement for this compliance period, but will be in the following year. It will contain information about their online record that these lawyers will need to know for the upcoming compliance period (July 1-June 30).

A reminder to all lawyers who are taking CLE programs-please check your online record 30 days after you request that your attendance be reported to be sure the report has been made. If you take courses not presented by an Annual Sponsor, please submit the Attorney Credit Application Form with attachments within 30 days of course completion to have the course entered into your record, keeping it up to date as the compliance year progresses.
