Main Street Not Wall Street: Representing Middle Income Clients in Divorce
2.5 NHMCLE Hours 

Most family law practitioners in New Hampshire find that the bulk of their clients are middle income people. Practitioners often represent these clients knowing that their limited assets, yet very broad needs will require a lawyer to practice in an economical and efficient manner to properly accomplish the client’s goals. This program will focus on identifying and addressing the needs of middle income clients, including: cost effective discovery, efficient litigation techniques, effective use of settlement negotiation and mediation, and identifying and avoiding costly pit-falls.

Rule 170 and Beyond: ADR Requirements and Techniques

As attorneys seek to understand and adapt to the emphasis on Alternate Dispute Resolution in litigated cases, the Director of the Office of Mediation & Arbitration will explain the new requirements for Rule 170 compliance, and the opportunities to resolve a variety of disputes within the New Hampshire court system. Experienced practitioners will address topics including:

Sentencing Reform: NH’s Initiatives to Redesign the Criminal Justice System
2.5 NHMCLE Hours 

Th ere are a number of specialized courts, particularly for the mentally ill and those with drug probems, operating in NH. This afternoon program will provide an update on these innovative courts, and on the efforts by policy-makers in all branches of government to assist the court system in providing more sentencing or treatment options for non-violent defendants. Roger Warren, a former judge and a national authority on sentencing, will also discuss the trend from a national perspective.

What’s New at the EEOC: Changes on Disability Accommodation, Religious Discrimination, Caregiver Responsibilities
2.5 NHMCLE Hours 

For the EEOC, 2008 marked a year of significant developments. In addition to the amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the EEOC issued several new publications that employment law practitioners must add to their arsenal of knowledge in three primary areas: disability, religion, and caregivers. Reasonable accommodation, disparate treatment and best practices for complying with the laws in these areas will be the focus of the panel’s discussion.
